1. Short title
This Act may be cited as the Justices of the Peace Act, 1954.2. Appointment of justices of the peace
The Prime Minister may appoint fit and proper persons to be justices of the peace for the whole of Swaziland or for any district thereof, and may remove any person so appointed from his office.3. Continuance of prior appointments
Every justice of the peace appointed under section 11 of the Resident Justices of the Peace and Justices of the Peace Ordinance, 1904 hitherto in force in Swaziland, and holding such office at the date on which this Act comes into force, shall be deemed to have been appointed under section 2 of this Act.4. Ex officio justices of the peace
All Regional Secretary and Cadets, the Commissioner of Police and the Deputy Commissioner of Police shall be ex officio justices of the peace for Swaziland. (Taken from original Cap. 3).5. Oaths of allegiance and office (Schedule)
Every justice of the peace shall, before exercising any functions of his office, take the oaths of allegiance and office, set out in the Schedule, before the District Commissioner of the district in which he resides:Provided that this section shall not apply to any justice of the peace described in section 3.6. Powers, duties and jurisdiction
Every justice of the peace shall be authorised and required to administer oaths and take solemn declarations within his area in matters when statements upon oath or solemn declarations are required by law, or when otherwise requested so to do, and further to exercise all powers, jurisdiction and duties conferred and imposed on justices of the peace by any law which may from time to time be in force.History of this document
